Big River received the first ResponsibleSteel Site Certification in North America in 2022, and has now achieved certification for sustainably sourced and manufactured steel.

The ResponsibleSteel International Production Standard is said to incorporate environmental, social and governance (ESG) requirements across 13 principles, including more than 500 criteria for responsible sourcing and production.

Certified Steel requires Site Certification and additional conformance with progress on responsible sourcing of input materials and site-level decarbonisation.

There are four progress levels to help companies improve their responsible sourcing and decarbonisation to reach full supply-chain transparency and near-zero emissions.
