UK to get a carbon border adjustment mechanism
A UK carbon border adjustment mechanism (CBAM) will be introduced from the start of 2027 for some energy-intensive imports.
The UK CBAM will place a carbon price on some of the most emissions-intensive industrial goods that are imported, says the UK Government.
This includes the aluminium, cement, fertiliser, hydrogen, and iron and steel sectors.
Products from the glass and ceramics sectors are currently not planned to be included, but the scope will be reviewed.
The decision is the outcome from a CBAM consultation that ran for 12 weeks to March 2024, with more than 340 responses from stakeholders.
