Ceramics fired solely by hydrogen

Lucideon, UK, claims it has completed 100% hydrogen firing of sanitaryware.

Lucideon partnered with Creavit Türkiye on the project to produce the ceramics.

The test was undertaken at the Applied Materials Research, Innovation, & Commercialisation Company (AMRICC) centre, taking more than 13 hours at 1,200°C.

The UK-based company hopes this fits into the wider Transforming Foundation Industries pledge to decarbonise.

The hardware used is partially funded by the Innovate UK EconoMISER programme, awarded to the Foundation Industries Sustainability Consortium (FISC).

FISC explores decarbonisation over six themes: alternative fuels, circular economy, digital sensing, process optimisation, sustainable materials, training and skills.

FISC has five partners - Lucideon, CPI, Glass Futures, Henry Royce Institute and Materials Processing Institute.
