The Accreditation and Professional Formation Committee (APFC) oversees the standards and processes for the accreditation of academic programmes, and company Initial Professional Development (IPD) schemes to meet the requirements for registration levels for which IOM3 has licences, in the UK and overseas.

To do this the APFC appoints several Accreditation Experts who undertake the accreditation visits and conduct a peer review of the programmes where accreditation from the IOM3 has been requested. Those who undertake the role typically are engineers from industry or academia and a specific requirement is for them to actively hold membership at MIMMM or FIMMM level and be registered as a Chartered Engineer.

We currently have vacancies for up to 5 members from industry and 5 members from academia to get involved in this activity which is both interesting and rewarding and a fantastic opportunity for CPD.

It is expected that the member would be required to attend at least one accreditation visit per year and these may require travel throughout the UK. It is an advantage if the members have prior experience of accreditation through their current or previous roles in academia or industry.  This is not essential though, as to ensure Accreditation Experts are equipped with the necessary knowledge and understanding of accreditation, they are required to attend a training session before going on their first visit and retrained every 3 years. The training covers all aspects to ensure compliance with both Engineering Council standards and regulations and IOM3 procedures and requirements.

We are particularly keen to improve the diversity of our volunteer cadre. We are happy to arrange informal conversations for anyone who wants to find out more about any of the posts and the process.

If this is something that interests you, please submit your CV & a statement, of no more than 150 words, describing yourself, your expertise and experience, including what you would bring to the role to Paul Skerry, Director of Membership by close of business on 30th September 2024.

Don’t meet every requirement? Studies have shown that women and people of colour are less likely to apply to jobs unless they meet every single qualification. At IOM3 we are building a diverse, inclusive and authentic Institute. If you’re excited about this role but your past experience doesn’t align perfectly with every qualification in the role description, we encourage you to apply anyway. You may just be the right candidate for this or other roles.
