The committee comprises up to 15 members, with approximately two-thirds from academia and one-third from industry.

Due to recent retirements and completion of terms of office we have an opportunity for new members and are seeking 1 member from Industry and 4 members from academia to join the committee. A requirement of the role is that you hold the CEng MIMMM or FIMMM designation.

Description of role

As a member of the IOM3 APFC you will have a role in supporting the remit of the committee, as outlined below:

  • To oversee the standards and processes for the accreditation of academic programmes, and company Initial Professional Development (IPD) schemes to meet the requirements for registration levels for which IOM3 has licenses.
  • To accredit academic programmes and approve IPD schemes and to approve work-based learning as defined by the Engineering Council, the Science Council or the Society for the Environment, and to advise the Membership Committee as required.
  • To monitor and report to the Professional Standard and Development Board on trends in accreditation and on the development of UK SPEC and CSci/CEnv requirements.
  • To develop and review guidelines and procedures for accreditation and make proposals to the Professional Standards and Development Board.
  • To monitor the accreditation process and make recommendations for continuous improvements.
  • To review the provision of training and development courses to enable members to fulfil their obligations for professional development, to identify areas where provision is lacking and make recommendations on how any gaps in provision could be filled.
  • To recruit, direct and monitor the Accreditation Experts Panel.
  • Deliver the following services: Accreditation of university degree courses and approval of programmes leading to membership and accreditation.

The committee conducts most of its work via email but meets virtually twice a year and once in person.

The candidate is required to have a good understanding of the requirements of accreditation through their role within academia or industry. It is an advantage if the candidate has been an accreditation expert panel member in both academic programmes and IPD schemes, but this is not essential as training and support will be provided.

We are particularly keen to improve the diversity of our volunteer cadre. We are happy to arrange informal conversations for anyone who wants to find out more about the post and our processes.

If this is something that interests you, please submit your CV & a statement, of no more than 150 words, describing yourself, your expertise and experience, including what you would bring to the role to Paul Skerry, Director of Membership by close of business on 30th September 2024.

You may just be the right candidate for this or other roles.  Should you need reasonable adjustments, please do not hesitate to contact to us make suitable arrangements.
