Abstract: Net Zero Industry Wales (NZIW) is a not-for-profit body which provides independent guidance and support to industries across Wales, in their transition to delivering net zero. Established in 2022 to provide a neutral and trusted voice within the sector, NZIW supports a growing membership of industry, academia, and public sector, alike. Net Zero Industry Wales will foster collaboration and help unlock investment, with the ultimate aim of making Wales the country of choice for sustainable goods and services. The establishment of NZIW was one of the key outputs of the South Wales Industrial Cluster (SWIC) plan, which not only outlined the potential to unlock £30bn of investment, safeguard & grow 113,000 jobs and the ability to reduce 16million of emission by 2040, but also identified a need for an independent organisation, to lead the delivery of the plan and expand the partnership across the region. Biography of Ben Burggraaf Native of the Netherlands, Ben began his career in 2002 at the Corus/Tata Steel research and development facility in the Netherlands and was appointed as the Energy Optimisation Manager at the Port Talbot Steelworks in 2007. In 2014, he moved to Welsh Water and was responsible for the day-to-day energy costs and carbon management of more than 4000 of the company’s sites across Wales and Herefordshire. He was appointed as Head of Energy in 2018, leading on all aspects of energy management for Welsh Water, including developing and leading the company’s Net Zero Strategy. In 2022 Ben was appointed as the Chief Executive Officer for a newly established body called Net Zero Industry Wales, supporting the industrial clusters in Wales on their Journey to Net Zero.
