Update on SUSTAIN Project

The Sheffield Metallurgical & Engineering Association (SMEA) are pleased to announce the details of their first technical meeting of the new 2024-2025 season which will be delivered by Professor Cameron Pleydell-Pearce from the University of Swansea on 24 September.

In his presentation, Cameron will provide an update on the progress of the SUSTAIN Project which is all about reversing the decline in the UK steel industry by providing a future based on Green Steelmaking Technology. Its aim is to change the face of the UK steel making industry.

Steelmaking has been prominent in the UK for generations. The SUSTAIN Future Manufacturing Research Hub is a £35M project funded by £10M of EPSRC funds as well as by Universities, Trade Bodies, RTOs and Businesses over 7 years and aims to support the industry as it develops new, more environmentally friendly options to ensure the future of manufacturing in the UK.

Prof. Cameron Pleydell-Pearce is in an ideal position to talk about this initiative as he sits on the Management Board of the Project. More information will be available near the date but his should be a lecture you do not want to miss.

The lecture is being delivered at the Sheffield Crowne Plaza Victoria Hotel and will run from 1815 to 1915.  Refreshments will be available from 1800 and all are welcome to attend.

Alternatively, if you can't make it in person, you are welcome to attend virtually on Zoom, click the Book Now button for details of how to join.
